India's Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) launch is scheduled on Monday, 28th October 2013 at 3.30PM to 4.00PM at Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) Shriharikota 100 km north to Chennai, Tamilnadu.
Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) is first ever try from Indian Space Research Organisation to send a orbiter on the planet Mars to study Martian atmosphere and perform scientific research in the orbit around Mars.
MOM scientific equipments are capable to to detect atmospheric Methane (CH4) and mapping it's source of origin on the planet Mars. However, in recent update from Curiosity rover team from NASA declared the absense of Methane in the martian atmosphere from 6 data samples collected over one year period of Curiosity rover on the planet Mars. Presence of Methane in atmosphere is considered a vital indication of life like biological activity on a planet.
MOM team at ISRO thinks Mars Orbiter Mission research in detection of Methane could add more value to the findings on neighboring planet and support research team with invalueable data collected from it's five type of scientific research equipments once it will start it's job in the orbit around the planet Mars.
