India protest over diplomat Devyani Khobragade's arrest in USA

Devyani Khobragade's arrest over visa fraud case in USA plays historic spoilsport between India and US diplomatic relations

The row over Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade’s arrest in USA over alleged visa fraud for her maid, intensifies on Tuesday, 17th December 2013. Top Indian leaders including Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi and government officers refused to meet USA delegation today inspite of their scheduled meetings with them.

Devyani Khobragade works at Indian consulate in New York. She joined IFS in 1999 batch. Police arrested her during an investigation of visa fraud case. According to reports, Police handcuffed her in the public in her way to the school of her child. Police treated her like a criminal and kept her along with drug peddlers.

The government of India tightens it’s stand at the highest level in the history against USA diplomats in terms of the diplomatic immunity provided them in India. Indian government cancels their special pass at airports and removes barricades at USA consulate.

Social media burst into huge protest over the treatment given by USA to the Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade in New York prison. According to diplomatic experts, it is a case of completely negligence of diplomatic immunity provided to Indian consulate in USA.

NDA’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat CM, Narendra Modi tweets about his protest over the issue. Devyani Khobragade’s arrest and visa fraud case has become a spoilsport between India and USA diplomatic relations and diplomacy.
